Yumnam Khemchand Singh became Chief Minister of Manipur on 4 February 2026, succeeding N. Biren Singh whose government fell amid the ongoing ethnic crisis. A senior BJP leader and former Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, he had served as a Cabinet Minister (Municipal Administration, Rural Development, and Education portfolios) in Biren Singh's second government. He represents the Singjamei constituency and is also a nationally recognised Taekwondo master — the first Indian awarded a 5th Dan by the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation.
