About the Party
Founded by C.N. Annadurai in 1949 after splitting from Justice Party, DMK is one of Tamil Nadu's two dominant Dravidian parties. M.K. Stalin became party president in 2018, led it to power in 2021, and swept all 39 TN Lok Sabha seats in 2024. It lost the 2026 assembly election to TVK and exited the INDIA bloc in June 2026 after Congress backed Vijay's government.
