About
Anandiben Patel was Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2014 to 2016 — the first woman CM of the state — succeeding Narendra Modi when he became Prime Minister. A long-serving education minister under Modi's Gujarat tenure, she implemented several of his flagship programmes. She resigned in 2016 citing age, with Vijay Rupani succeeding her. She subsequently served as Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh (from 2019).
