About
Gulzarilal Nanda served as Acting Prime Minister of India on two occasions — for 13 days after Nehru's death in 1964, and again for 13 days after Lal Bahadur Shastri's death in 1966. A veteran freedom fighter and labour leader, he served as Union Home Minister and deputy to both Nehru and Shastri. Known for his austerity and integrity, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1997.
