About
Chandra Shekhar served as India's 11th Prime Minister for seven months (1990–91) heading a minority government with Congress support. A socialist leader and former Janata Party president, he was known for his Padayatra across India (1983) and his fierce independence of mind. His government resigned in March 1991 when Congress withdrew support over allegations of surveillance of Rajiv Gandhi's residence.
