Charan Singh was India's 7th Prime Minister, serving from July 1979 to January 1980 — he never faced Parliament and resigned before presenting a budget. A farmer's leader from western Uttar Pradesh who championed peasant rights throughout his career, he served as Chief Minister of UP twice. His tenure is notable for being entirely as a caretaker PM. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 2024.
