Inder Kumar Gujral was India's 14th Prime Minister, serving for 11 months in 1997–98. A former External Affairs Minister known for the 'Gujral Doctrine' — a policy of unilateral concessions to smaller South Asian neighbours to build regional goodwill — he sought to normalise ties with Pakistan and Bangladesh. His government fell after the Jain Commission report implicated DMK (a coalition partner) in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination.
