About
Kocheril Raman Narayanan was India's tenth President and the first Dalit to hold the office. Born in Uzhavoor, Kerala, in a family of poor farm labourers, he rose through scholarship to become a diplomat, academic (Vice Chancellor of JNU), and politician. He represented Ottapalam (Kerala) in Parliament and served as Union Minister before becoming Vice President and then President. He was notably active in exercising presidential discretion, returning files for reconsideration — rare for an Indian President.
