About
Kalyan Singh was Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice — first in 1991–92 when he oversaw the events leading to the demolition of the Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992 (leading to his resignation under President's Rule), and again from 1997–99. A Lodh OBC leader who built the BJP's strong backward-caste base in UP, he was one of the most consequential UP CMs of the 1990s. He later served as Governor of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
