Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was India's sixth President, notably elected unopposed — the only person in Indian history to win a presidential election without a contest. Born in Illur, Andhra Pradesh, he served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and as the Speaker of Lok Sabha before becoming President. His election was backed by the Janata Party after the Emergency. He was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi.
