About
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was India's 2nd President and one of the world's foremost philosophers of the 20th century. Born in Tiruttani, Andhra Pradesh, he taught at Mysore and Calcutta universities and was Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions at Oxford. He served as Indian Ambassador to the Soviet Union (1949–52) and Vice President (1952–62) before becoming President. His birthday, 5 September, is celebrated as Teachers' Day across India. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954.
