About
Tarun Gogoi was Chief Minister of Assam for 15 years (2001–2016) across three consecutive terms — the longest serving CM in Assam's history. He stabilised the state after decades of ULFA militancy and insurgency, negotiating peace with several militant outfits. Under his leadership Assam saw improved law and order and significant infrastructure development. He lost the 2016 elections to the BJP. He died on 23 November 2020, a COVID-19 victim.
