Vishwanath Pratap Singh served as India's 10th Prime Minister from 1989 to 1990 at the head of the National Front coalition. A former Finance and Defence Minister under Rajiv Gandhi who broke with Congress over corruption, he implemented the Mandal Commission recommendations on OBC reservations — a seismic political act that reshaped Indian caste politics for decades. His government fell in November 1990 when BJP withdrew support after he refused to halt the Babri Masjid movement.
