About
Vilasrao Deshmukh was Chief Minister of Maharashtra for two terms totalling nearly eight years — one of Maharashtra's longest-serving CMs. A Maratha leader from Latur, he was known for his genial personality and political management skills. His second term (2004–08) ended following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, after political controversy around his visit to the Taj Hotel with his actor son Riteish Deshmukh led to criticism. He later served as Union Minister and died in office in 2012 while undergoing treatment.
